Natural remedies for Diabetes

I opened up my browser and it took me to the last visited page - yahoo.com ..and something of my interest caught my eyes - an article titled "Natural remedies for Diabetes".
A few websites say that garlic and aloe Vera reduce blood sugar level, American ginseng decreases blood sugar level, etc.
An article on the Times Of India dated 29 Aug, 2012 says:

Soak a few seeds (1/4 tsps) of methi in water overnight. First thing after you brush your teeth in the morning, gulp down the methi along with the water.

Jambul fruit is considered as an effective medicine for diabetes considering its effect on pancreas. The seeds too can be dried, powdered and had with water twice a day.

The guava is among those fruits that are available in most times of the year. With its vitamin C property and high fibre content, this is perhaps one fruit that diabetics can fearlessly have. However, a recent study has shown that having guava with its skin can heighten the blood sugar levels, so make sure you peel off the skin before consumption.

Gooseberry/amla juice too cuts the blood sugar levels.

Studies have shown that black coffee without sugar cuts the risk of Type 2 diabetes

Among other benefits, green tea is also helpful in reducing the blood sugar and insulin levels in the body

Let us now take a brief look on what the article on yahoo has to say.

Water is required for health, all of us know. How can this help diabetes? Here's what the article has to say:  Drinking 2.5 litres of water, on a daily basis, will not only regulate physical functions but will also lower chances of cardiovascular and diabetic ailments.
The article also speaks about Green Tea, which is commonly said as a remedy for diabetes.

A not-so-commonly said fact is also seen - Vinegar is an excellent dietary compound responsible for diluting concentrated sugar-levels in the blood. Studies have shown that two spoonfuls of vinegar before a meal can reduce the glucose influx.
Well - interesting!

And of course, the inevitable statements on physical workouts and fresh fruits are mentioned. They are perhaps the most important things for anyone in the world, to stay healthy.

Further, the article talks about soy: Soy proteins are one of the miracle cures for reducing diabetes among crucial patients. The isoflavones contained in them reduce the sugar content in blood and keep the body nourished, while accumulating much fewer calories, when compared to other foods.

A few other commonly known things such as, small regular meals, vegetables, and the like are mentioned. Nothing new.

A few more noteworthy points in the article are:

  • Fenugreek or Methi seeds are considered the most effective of natural cures that can help alleviate typical symptoms of diabetes. Methi seeds should be soaked in water overnight. The water concentrated with the seeds’ juices should be consumed early in the morning on an empty stomach. For making this natural concoction stronger, you can crush the seeds and sieve them through a cloth or filter paper.
  • An effective, natural concoction for diabetes can be prepared by adding a few teaspoons of ground Bay Leaf (Tejpatra) with one teaspoon of turmeric. This mixture should be mixed with an equal amount of aloe vera gel and consumed daily, before lunch and dinner.
  •  Diabetics can use Banaba or Jarul plant extract. Banaba (don't mistake it to be the banana! :P) is among the lesser known of herbal plants in India. Along with India, it is grown in only a handful of other nations. The herbal powder of Banaba extract can be used to make herbal tea. This plant contains high concentrations of contains Corosolic acid—the most potent of biochemical compounds that stimulate faster glucose metabolism and help to regulate blood sugar and insulin levels that is very useful for combating diabetes.
  • Jamun: Jamun is one of the rarest plants where nearly each part, the leaves, berry and seeds are known to help in controlling blood sugar levels. Neem leaves are useful in a similar manner. Amla or the Indian goose Berry is similarly effective in managing sugar levels. Instead of using only Neem leaves, you can also add leaves of Tulsi and Bel Patra. All these leaves can be boiled together for increasing the potency of the filtered extract.
I hope these helped. The points state above are from reliable resources (Sources given below), and I trust these will help. Along with these, regular blood tests and appropriate measures made under the supervision of a doctor would be extremely essential for good health.
Good luck, and live healthy!
Stay tuned for more :)

Remedies to cure hair fall.

There are many easy remedies in our kitchen that help in curing hair fall. These remedies usually work unless it is caused due to an underlying disease. In such a case it is advised to consult a qualified doctor.

Here are a few remedies...

  • To provide shine to the hair use tea decoction as a final rinse after shampooing.
  • An Ayurvedic remedy is: Take a handful of Neem leaves and boil them in two cups of water. After cooling and filtering use the decoction for rinsing the hair.
  • To provide bounce to dull and lifeless hair, mix a little vinegar in warm water and rinse hair with it.
  • Drinking at least between 10 and 14 glasses of water everyday is a popular way to prevent hair loss. This is because water helps in washing off toxins from the body.
  • Caffeine is a diuretic which makes one urinate out more liquid than consume. Dehydration causes hair fall. So cut down on caffeine intake.
  • Massage the scalp with warm oil at least once a week. The oil used can be coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil or any other oil. Castor oil may not suit those suffering from sinusitis.
  • A mixture of fresh Amla juice and Lime juice in equal quantity can be used as a shampoo regularly. This helps in hair growth and prevents hair loss.
  • Another well known remedy is to massage Almond oil on the scalp two to three times every day.
  • Boil coconut oil  with the juices of curry leaves, basil, Hibiscus flower and Gooseberry(Amla). Apply on hair, wash after sometime. Do this at least once a week.
  • Crush leaves of 5 petal Hibiscus flower and take the juice. Wash hair with this juice.

Hair Care Regime

It is essential to follow a proper hair care regime in order to prevent hair fall. Here are some dos and don'ts for good hair.

  • Wash hair regularly using a mild herbal shampoo. This prevents itching and hair lice, thereby controlling hair fall.
  • Do not comb hair when it is wet. The hair tends to break easily when it is wet.
  • Avoid blow dryers as much as possible because too much of artificial heat dries the scalp causing dandruff.
  • If hair dryers cannot be avoided it is good to keep it at a low setting and hold the dryer a little away from the scalp. This ensures the heat doesn't reach the scalp at a close range.
  • Avoid  chemical hair colours. There are various risks involved in using chemical hair colours.
  • Avoid harsh hair bands and clips as they cause tension to the hair and result in breakage.

Crowning glory - hair - maintain it

Hair is the crowning glory. Lustrous, healthy hair is in itself a sign of good health. It is said that losing about 100 hairs a day is normal. If you lose more hair then it’s an alarming sign.

Hair loss is caused due to many reasons such as lack of vitamins, minerals or iron in the body, age, pollution, heredity, stress, lack of sleep, hormonal imbalance and illness. One needs to eat healthy food, clean hair regularly, drink plenty of water and sleep properly for healthy and shining hair.

The basics to healthy hair includes a healthy diet, followed by a proper hair care regime, along with good sleep and providing hydration to the body. Too much of chemicals can steal the natural beauty and also result in hair fall.

A healthy diet  means eating  well balanced  food, timely meals, avoiding fried items and junk food. It helps to add lots of fresh vegetables, sprouts, fruits, fruit juice and adequate amount of water
